The number of times a paper is cited by others gives an indication of the impact of that paper. These tools will allow you to search for a paper and view a simple count to show how often that paper has been cited.
Note that each tool draws upon a different set of journals. When quoting the times cited, it is important to also indicate which tool you used, and the date you checked (remember that the number of times cited usually increases over time).

The 3 modules, Benchmarking, Collaboration, and Trends, offer access to the research performance of more than 4600 research institutions and over 200 countries worldwide. Users can identify and analyse existing and potential collaboration opportunities based on publication output and citation impact.

Create a profile in ORCID which is an international, interdisciplinary, open, and not-for-profit organization created for the benefit of all stakeholders, including research institutions, funding organizations, publishers, and researchers to enhance the scientific discovery process and improve collaboration and the efficiency of research funding. ORCID aims to solve the name ambiguity problem in scholarly communications by creating a registry of persistent unique identifiers for individual researchers and an open and transparent linking mechanism between ORCID, other ID schemes, and research objects such as publications, grants, and patents.
2. Register for a ResearcherID in Web of Science to increase your visibility and recognition.
3. Know your Scopus Author Identifier to locate and verify author research output and match and verify citations, affiliations.
4. Join Pivot-RP (Research Professional) to increase your research profile.
5. Increase visibility of your research through contributing to UC Research Portal and publishing in Open Access Journals.
1. Citation count
Use Search tab in Web of Science to find citations for a known author.
Use Author Search in Scopus to find citations for a known author.
2. H-index
A researcher with an index of h has published h papers each of which has been cited by others at least h times. To find your h-index in the Web of Science, after you search for your name, click on Citation Report. To find your h-index in Scopus, after you search for your name, click on View Citation Overview.

Looking at the impact factor of a journal is a further way of measuring its quality.
For Elsevier journals, go to Scopus Journal Analyzer page or the SCImago Journal and Country Rank page.
For journals listed in Web of Science, go to the database page and click on EndNote at top bar. EndNote will open asking you to log in. Once in, click on Match at top. EndNote will Find the Best Fit Journals for your Manuscript. Type in your article title and words from the abstract. Click Find Journals. The list of best fit journals also includes the JCR Impact Factor for the current year and 5 year for each journal.
1. Go to Web of Science
2. Search for University of Canberra in the Address field: Univ Canberra
3. Choose Analyse Results
4. Choose the following options and click Analyse:
- Rank the records by this field: Authors
- Set display option: Top 500
- Sort by: Record count
5. Select each author in the Faculty
6. Select View Records
7. On the results page, choose Create Citation Report to generate the graphs and metrics for the Faculty
