Interlibrary Loans & Document Delivery

Interlibrary Loans & Document Delivery obtains items from other libraries, both within Australia and overseas, that are not held in the University of Canberra Library.

This service is available to all current University of Canberra staff and students.

Place and check your requests in the Library Catalogue (Library Search).

If you have not used this service before, please see the New Users section.

When placing a request

  • Go to the Library catalogue and sign in (right corner of the top toolbar)
  • Search the Library catalogue – ensuring you refine results to include results without full text (located at the top of the left filters).
  • Open the record you require and click on Document delivery (under How to get it)
Alternatively you can fill in a blank document delivery form by clicking in the top tool bar.
  • In the Comment field let us know if:
  • You need to agree with the copyright terms to send us your request
  • You can check the status of your requests from your online library account
  • What do you have access to?

The interlibrary loans and document delivery service supports your work, study and research by locating additional resources for you.

    We can obtain:

    • Journal articles
    • Conference papers
    • Books
    • Book chapters
    • Theses

Requests for material that is currently held in UC's print and electronic collections will not be supplied.

There is no direct cost to you to use this service. Your faculty or department will cover the cost for requests relating to your work, study or research.

How long will it take to fill my request?

Most requests are filled within 7-10 working days, however this can vary depending on the availability of the material, and the location and type of supplier. Overseas requests usually take longer to fill.

If you need to fast track your request, or require delivery sooner than the usual turnaround times, you must alert Document Services:

    • Indicate urgency in the Comments field of the request, or
    • Email Document Services citing your request number once you have submitted your request.

    Collecting your request

    • Hard copy articles will be posted to off-campus staff and students.

    Books and other loans
    • You will be notified via your UC email address when they are available for collection.
    • You will need your UC staff/student card to collect your request.
    • Loans will be posted to off-campus staff and students.

    Once you have your request

    Loan periods

Journal articles do not need to be returned.

The due date for books is set by the lending library. You can check the due date of your book by logging into My Library. Please ensure that loans are returned by the due date to avoid fines and overdues.

    Returning your loans

Items may be returned to the Library Service Desk or placed in the external return chutes.

    Renewals

Not all interlibrary loans can be renewed.

If your book can be renewed, please email Document Services a few days before the item is due so we can arrange a renewal with the lending library.

    Overdues

Interlibrary loan items must be returned by their due date. If the item becomes overdue you will be blocked from borrowing until it is returned.

Very overdue interlibrary loans attract a charge of $250 and a non-refundable processing fee of $23.50. Any additional charges levied by the lender will also be passed onto the borrower.

    Lost or damaged items

If an item is lost or damaged while in your possession you will be responsible for any charges made by the supplying library and any cost to the University of Canberra Library. If this occurs, please contact Document Services.

    Copyright

All interlibrary loan and document delivery requests must comply with Australian copyright laws. For more information about copyright, please see the University's Copyright Guide.
