Eligible article types

These article types qualify for the R&P agreement:

  • Research articles
  • Review articles
  • Case reports
  • Brief reports.

Limitations of the agreement

  • Your article must be accepted for publication after 1 January 2025
  • For 2024, this agreement provides for 1101 articles across all participating institutions to be published open access with no transactional APCs. The current number of published articles can be found on the CAUL information page.
  • Articles published in a Supplement are not eligible to use Read and Publish funds to cover the open access charge.
  • A small number of included journals have mandatory page charges that are not covered by the agreement.
  • Colour printing is optional and colour printing charges are not included under the terms of the agreement. Figures can appear in colour online and black-and-white in print at no charge. These charges only apply to journals with print issues.
  • When submitting articles for publication, please check individual journal home pages for up-to-date information on page and colour charges.

Creative Commons licences

Articles from authors at participating institutions may be published under the authors' choice of:

  • CC-BY
  • CC-BY-NC
  • CC-BY-NC-ND

For more information on Creative Commons licenses see the home page of this guide.

How to submit your article

The following instructions for authors have been provided by the publisher. Further details are available on the OUP website.

  1. During peer-review/pre-acceptance, you should ensure that your affiliation is up-to-date and correct in your Submission System profile and on your article.
  2. Once your article has been peer-reviewed and accepted for publication, you will receive an email which contains a link to the Online Licensing and Payments System, SciPris. SciPris will check your institutional affiliation and article type to determine if you are eligible to use the funds.
  3. Proceed to request use of the Read and Publish Agreement funds.
  4. Sign in and create an account if you don’t have one. (This is not the same system you used to submit your article to the journal.)
  5. The license options are displayed. You won’t see any prices because you aren’t required to make a payment.
  6. Send the request for review.
  7. View your dashboard or sign out.
