Images / Figures / Tables - In-Text Citation

This information is taken from the IEEE Editorial Style Manual for Authors (p. 15).

Note

All first citations of figures and tables must be in numerical order.

If the figure or table is taken from another source add the citation number at the end of the caption in square brackets.

Format - Figure Caption

Citations to figures in text and in captions are always abbreviated to "Fig." followed by the figure number.

Fig. x.     Title of figure. (a) part of figure. (b) part of figure. [Citation number].

Examples - Figure Caption

Fig. 1.     Intercomplex crosstalk characteristics. (a) Electrode transmission. (b) Interelectrode crosstalk.

Fig. 2.     (a) Variation of effective mode index with time. (b) Step-index change [1].

Format - Table

Tables are numbered in roman numerals.

Table captions are centred above the table and are written in all capitals.

Table titles should appear as an inverted pyramid.

There is no full stop at the end of the full title, however punctuation may appear in the middle of the title.

Reference the item that the image is taken from e.g. book, journal, web page.
